Additional Book Resources

Lovely to see you here and I am looking forward to helping you with your finance leadership career in a start-up or scale-up.

Chapter 2: Book Recommendations

Here are a collection of books that I have read over the years and believe that they are worth recommending.

This list includes books that cover the topics of leadership, confidence, productivity, startups and scaleups.  Click here to access the full list.

Conversations about leadership

Here is a podcast I did with Startup CFO on leadership skills.

Here is an interview with Bound on controlling the chaos with rapid growth.

Here is an article with The Female Lead on leadership skills.

Chapter 6: Revenue recognition policy

You can access a template as a starting point if you need to create a new policy.  Do not ask for edit access.  Take a copy of this and then save in your drive and change.  You can access it here.

Chapter 6: Procurement policy

You can access a template as a starting point if you need to create a new policy.  Do not ask for edit access.  Take a copy of this and then save in your drive and change.  You can access it here.

Chapter 7: Change bank details

As part of the Supplier and Procurement policy, there is a change of bank details request form to help mitigate against fraud.  This isn't foolproof - but a good starting point.  You can download this here.

Chapter 8: KPIs

I gave a high-level list of KPIs that are important within a startup or scaleup within the book.  I have taken this list (along with a few other key metrics), given you the formula to calculate them, what this KPI tells you and what to look for in the results.  You can access this resource here.

Chapter 9: Latest Tech stack

I do update my Finance Tech stack recommendations every 6 months.  This tech stack is what we use with clients and recommend to the founders and finance leaders that we work with.  The most recent recommendation is listed here.

Advanced Management Accounts course

If you want to upgrade your Management Accounts to an advance level quickly - then take a look at our 1-day Advanced Management accounts course here.

Chapter 14: Product Market Fit

Trying to determine Product Marketing Fit (PMF) is one of the most important first steps in achieving growth for any business.  Here is how you determine if it's been achieved or not.

Finance Leadership Scorecard

You can take our Finance Leadership scorecard and find out if you have the mindset and knowledge to be a Startup CFO.  This is a very high-level scorecard.  However, it will give you an indication of the areas that you can focus on.  Take the Scorecard here.

Cashflow Management for start-ups and scale-ups

If the cashflow in your startup is getting a little tight, in the absence of a confirmed great cashflow forecasting tool (watch this space) we use this template with our founders to keep an eye on the cash runway.  You can download this template here.
